Pakistan High Commissioner H.E. Murad Ashraf Janjua and Pakistan’s Defence Advisor Brigadier Shoaib Bin Akram, Tamgha e Basalat, made a presentation on behalf of Pakistan Army on the two Pakistan Army Regiments namely 1st Baloch Regiment and 1st Self Propelled (Frontier Force) Regiment which were part of British Indian Army in ANZAC during the First World War.
Brigadier Shoaib provided history of the two regiments and highlighted their contributions in the First World War.
The High commissioner thanked New Zealand for recognising the services of men at Arms and reiterated that the two countries may be far apart in physical distance but they share common values. He said that the Pakistani community in NZ must be proud and happy to have found another link with their adopted country.
Pakistani Community representatives also acknowledged the gesture and presented a thank you note. Colonel Bede Fahey, Chief of the Museum, conducted the visit and ceremony and thanked Pakistan Army on behalf of the New Zealand Chief of Army.
