Important Announcement – Voting Rights for Overseas Pakistanis

Pursuant to the order of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan, the High Commission is pleased to inform all overseas Pakistanis residing in New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and Kiribati that they would be able to cast their votes in future elections in Pakistan.

After successfully registering and voting by Overseas Pakistanis on 11 National Assembly and 26 Provincial Assembly Constituencies on 14 October 2018, a Bye- election is being held in PP-168 Lahore-XXV constituency on 13 December, 2018, between, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm (Pakistan standard time). Therefore, all overseas voters living in New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa and Kiribati and who belong to PP-168 Lahore-XXV constituency are required to get themselves registered before 27 November, 2018, online to cast their vote through internet voting.

WHO CAN VOTE?

  1. All Overseas Pakistanis who are 18 years of age and above, hold a valid NICOP or MRP, can register as overseas voters.

  2. An overseas Pakistani must register with the online voting system to cast his/her vote through the website ( www.overseasvoting.gov.pk ).

HOW TO REGISTER?

  1. An overseas voter who wishes to use the system must have a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), a Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) and valid email address.

  2. Using this system, it will be possible cast vote in your home constituency from the comfort of your home, using any internet- connected device like personal computer, mobile phone, laptop or tablet.

  3. On the website, you will be required to create an account using your email address and mobile phone number. Using the account you will then have to log in to the website and select the menu of registration.

  4. The system will first determine the eligibility of the voter and ask him/her to enter the 13-digit unique identity number printed on the NICOP, issuance date of the card, MRP number and the tracking ID printed on the MRP. If the voter is eligible, the system will ask two verification questions from the data to confirm his/her identity.

  5. On successful verification, the voter will be sent a notification of successful registration and subsequently the system will delist the overseas voter from the local voter list.

HOW TO VOTE?

  1. Registered voters will be sent a voter password before the election.

  2. On election day i.e. 13 December, 2018, the voter will log into the website (www.overseasvoting.gov.pk ) using their account, go to their constituency using voter password, select the option of ‘vote now’ and cast their vote.
