Annual Inter-Disciplinary Doctoral Students’ SymposiumOrganized by the Massey University Pakistani Students Association (MUPSA)

The Pakistani Students’ Association (PSA), at the Massey University, (MUPSA), Palmerston North, organised it’s 3rd Annual Doctoral Students’ Symposium on 22 November, 2012. The event was attended by a large number of Massey University students, faculty members and the High Commissioner for Pakistan.

Mr. Babar Chohan, President MUPSA, apprised the participants about the objectives of the Symposium and MUPSA academic and extra-curricular activities at the Massey University.

Professor Brigid Heywood Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Massey University praised Pakistani students for their active role in research at Massey University and participating in different social and sports activities. She also congratulated MUPSA’s Executive Committee for organising such a successful Symposium for a third consecutive year.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, the High Commissioner for Pakistan, commended the contribution Pakistani PhD scholars are making in New Zealand academic circles.

Apart from the Pakistani, PhD scholars from New Zealand, Nepal, Germany, France Islamic Republic of Iran, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom presented their research papers at the symposium.

In the end, souvenirs were exchanged between the High Commissioner and the Massey University faculty members. A Pakistani hand knotted rug and a Coffee table book on Pakistan were presented to the Massey University faculty by the High Commissioner. The day long Symposium concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and Pakistani traditional dinner was served to all guests.

There are currently 140 Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC), sponsored scholars in various Universities of New Zealand. Pakistan High Commission has been assisting PSA Massey University for the last 03 years in organising Inter-Disciplinary Symposium which has become an important event in the Massey University annual calendar of events.
