Flag Hoisting Ceremony and Message for the Pakistan Community in New Zealand (23 March 2020)

On the occasion of National Day of Pakistan, a Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held in the Pakistan High Commission today in Wellington. In view of ongoing COVID-19 and New Zealand government’s instructions to avoid gatherings, the ceremony was kept very brief while encouraging social distancing. The participants were encouraged to leave the premises as soon as the official ceremony ended. In view of health and safety reasons, the High Commission had informed all the invitees that it would respect their decision not to attend the ceremony.

​H.E. Dr. Abdul Malik, High Commissioner highlighted the importance of the day when in 1940, the Muslims of the subcontinent through their collective will expressed unflinching resolve to create a separate homeland for themselves wherein they could live their lives in accordance with their own tradition, values and culture. Through their tireless struggle and commitment and with the blessing of Allah Almightyand under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-AzamMuhammad Ali Jinnah, they achieved their objectivewith creation of Pakistan in 1947.

The High Commissioner also underscored the Government of Pakistan’s commitment towards the economic and social development of Pakistan as well as progress made in various projects already launched by the Government. In regards to the current atmosphere because of COVID-19, he stressed on the need to follow New Zealand government’s instructions on maintaining social distance and adopting other safety precautions.

​The High Commissioner acknowledged the Pakistani community’s contribution towards propagating a better image of Pakistan in New Zealand and assured them of High Commission’s full support to the Pakistani Community in this time of crisis.
