Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the Pakistan High Commission, Wellington, New Zealand

To commemorate the Pakistan Day on 23 March, 2012, a simple and dignified flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission, Wellington,

2.    As customary on the occasion, Pakistan Day messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani were read out by the High Commissioner. The President’s message expressed the resolve to uphold the constitution, rule of law and democracy in the country. The Prime Minister’s message traced the history of the struggle for Pakistan culminating in the Pakistan Resolution. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen the principles of mutual tolerance, brotherhood and reconciliation to foster unity.

3.    The High Commissioner, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas in his remarks recounted the achievements of the government and dilated upon the measures to forge unity, strengthen democratic institutions and ameliorate the lives of the ordinary people. He urged the community members to serve their adopted country with dedication while maintaining their links with their motherland. He thanked the community members for their support.

4.    Cross section of the community members living in Wellington, Auckland and Palmerston North attended the Pakistan Day function.
