A flag hoisting ceremony was held in a simple and dignified manner at Pakistan High Commission to commemorate the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan in New Zealand, on 14th August 2014. Members of Pakistani community living in Wellington and adjoining city Palmerston North attended the ceremony.

On this auspicious occasion special messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out. High Commissioner Zehra Akbari highlighted the significance of the day and observed that all Pakistanis should rededicate themselves to attaining the ideals of an enlightened, tolerant and moderate society as envisaged by the founding fathers. She also briefed the gathering on the latest achievements of Government towards economic progress and development of the country. She called upon Pakistani community to play a meaningful role in promoting Pakistan’s interests in New Zealand.

Another important event marking the occasion was the inauguration of a contemporary miniature Art exhibition of Pakistan, “Innovating with Tradition” in Pataka Art Gallery in Porirua, Wellington in the evening of 14th August. This exhibition will run till 14 September 2014.
