Observance of Kashmir Black Day (27 October)

A special ceremony was held at the High Commission today to observe “Kashmir Black Day” to express solidarity with the Kashmiris suffering under the Indian occupation. A cross section of the Pakistani community living in Wellington attended the event.

H.E. Dr. Abdul Malik, High Commissioner of Pakistan to New Zealand read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan on this occasion. During his speech, the High Commissioner observed that 27 October is the darkest day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. It was when India illegally occupied Kashmir in violation of the Indian Independence Act and Partition Plan and against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The High Commissioner reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic and political support to the just struggle of Kashmiri people and underlined Pakistan government’s efforts to raise the issue of Kashmir at the international forum. He stressed the need for the Pakistani community residing in New Zealand to speak up against Indian human rights violations and lockdown in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

A special documentary on the history of 27 October and human rights violations in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir was also screened during the ceremony.
