The High Commission organized a Pakistan Cultural Night in Wellington on 28 June 2018. The event was part of other smaller events organized by the Mission over the past one year to celebrate Pakistan’s 70th anniversary.
The Pakistan Cultural Night comprised of a reception where a documentary on Pakistan’s natural beauty and culture was shown. Another documentary on Sialkot city’s sports industry, mainly focusing on Football “Telstar” which is being used in the Football World Cup in Russia, was also shown. The reception was followed by a Fashion Show of Pakistani apparel, a sit-down dinner of Pakistani cuisine and a Qawwali/ghazal programme.
The event was attended by 80 guests, including several VIPs such as Ms. Marama Davidson, Leader of the Green Party and Mr. Kanwaljeet Singh Bakshi, Co-Chair of the New Zealand Parliament’s Friendship Group with South Asia. Several others Members of Parliament representing all four Political parties also attended. Other distinguished attendees included Rear Admiral John Martin, Chief of New Zealand Navy alongwith his wife, a representative of New Zealand Army, Mr. Stephen Harris, Divisional Manager South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior government officials, representatives of Wellington-based Think Tanks and several Heads of Diplomatic Missions.
