The 69th Independence Day celebrations including the flag hoisting ceremony was held at the High Commission for Pakistan in Wellington today. It was particularly heartening to welcome many Pakistani families including a large number of Pakistani students from distant cities. Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read to the audience. Her Excellency Mrs. Zehra Akbari, High Commissioner of Pakistan to New Zealand welcomed the guests and thanked them for their presence. In her remarks she highlighted significance of the day and recalled the sacrifices of our forefathers in making Pakistan a reality. She reminded the community that they were all goodwill Ambassadors for Pakistan and called upon them to play their role in projecting a positive image of Pakistan. On the occasion, the High Commissioner informed the guests that in order to facilitate the Pakistani community in New Zealand, the Government of Pakistan has decided to install MRP system in Wellington and that the process was in advance stages of installation.
