A delegation led by Mr. Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Member of Parliament and Mr. Ranvir Singh Lalli, President of Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand visited the High Commission on 29 November 2018 to convey their appreciation and gratitude to the Pakistan Government, particularly Prime Minister Imran Khan for his initiative to construct the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

The delegation also presented a shield conveying the gratitude of Supreme Sikh Society to Prime Minister Imran Khan. Dr. Abdul Malik, High Commissioner welcomed the delegation and stated that 28 November 2018 was a momentous day for all Sikh brothers and sisters as well as for Pakistan. The High Commissioner assured the distinguished guests that the Government of Pakistan as well as the High Commission would continue to facilitate travel of Sikhs to their religious sites. He also informed that the “corridor of peace”, is expected to be completed before the 550th birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak in November 2019. The corridor will facilitate the visit of Sikh brothers and sisters travelling from the Indian territory.

Kartarpur Sahib is a village in Narowal district of Punjab province where Gurudwara Darbar sahib Kartarpur is located. The founder of Sikh religion Guru Nanak settled here and the present Gurudwara is built on the site where Guru Nanak died, on 22 September 1539. Kartarpur sahib village is notable for its location, being only 4.5 km from the Indian border.
