Press Release – Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations (14 August 2019)

A simple and graceful flag-hoisting ceremony was held in the morning at the Pakistan High Commission today. A cross section of the Pakistani community living in Wellington and adjoining cities, attended the event.

The High Commissioner welcomed the guests and in his remarks, highlighted the significance of the day. He underlined Pakistan’s regional and global importance by virtue of its history, geo-strategic location, rich human and natural resources.

The High Commissioner underscored that Government of Pakistan is aware of the challenges it is currently faced with and it has adopted a comprehensive set of economic and structural reforms to lay the foundation of sustainable development.

The High Commissioner noted that today the Independence Day is being observed to express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren. Pakistan stand by them and it will continue to provide its political, moral and diplomatic support to their just struggle for self-determination.  

In his remarks, the High Commissioner also spoke on Pakistan’s relations with New Zealand and stressed the contribution of Pakistani community in strengthening Pakistan’s relations with New Zealand.
