In collaboration with Massey University, the Pakistan High Commission organized a public lecture on Dr. Muhammad Iqbal’s life and work on 4 May 2015 at Palmerston North. Dr. Mansoor Shafi, an Adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering at Victoria University and a scholor on Iqbaliat was the Key Note Speaker who gave a detailed presentation on Pakistan’s National poet. He spoke about Iqbal’s message and his views on various subjects including society, nature, western philosophers, God and the idea of self.
The talk was attended by the Vice Chancellor Hon. Steve Maharey, Assistant Vice Chancellors, Professors, Librarian and scholars including Pakistani Ph.D. scholars. A gift of books on Iqbal was also presented to the University’s library.
Dr Mohammad Iqbal was a poet, philosopher, political activist and a social reformer. He gave the idea of Pakistan. He composed poetry in Urdu and Persian languages and gave his vision of spiritual democracy and individual freedom.
