Public Lecture on Kashmir Dispute – the oldest issue on the UN Agenda
A well-attended public lecture on the Kashmir dispute was held in Wellington on 07 March 2014. A large number of guests comprising local Kiwis of all hues, members of diplomatic corps and Pakistani community resident in New Zealand attended the function.
Pakistan High Commissioner to New Zealand Ms Zehra Akbari in her opening remarks said the Kashmir dispute has remained on the UN agenda now for almost 66 years. She emphasized the need for resolution of the dispute for ensuring peace and security in the region.
The keynote speaker on this occasion was Mr Bob Rigg, a renowned scholar and an expert on international issues. He gave a historical overview of the Kashmir problem, its genesis, the involvement of the United Nations and emphasized that both Pakistan and India need to focus more on social and economic development of their people.
