A reception to welcome Pakistan Cricket Team and official contingent on their tour to New Zealand for participation in the ICC World Cup 2015 was hosted by Pakistan High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ms. Zehra Akbari on the evening of 29th January 2015 at Pakistan House, Wellington.
In a well-attended gathering including diplomats, government officials, members of New Zealand cricket fraternity and members of Pakistani community, the invitees intermingled with Pakistan cricketers. The Deputy Mayor of Wellington, Ms. Therese Walsh, Head of New Zealand ICC New Zealand and Sir Richard Hadlee, New Zealand’s Cricket Ambassador welcomed the Pakistan Cricket Team to New Zealand. In their remarks they praised Pakistan’s cricket record and the leading cricketers, Pakistan has produced. Sir Richard Hadlee, who is a great believer in the spirit of the game emphasized that game must always be treated with respect and played well. Mr. Naveed Akram Cheema, Manager, Pakistan Cricket Team spoke about strong cricket links between Pakistan and New Zealand and expressed the hope that the tournament will play an important role in enhancing bilateral relations and people to people contacts.
The High Commissioner in her welcoming remarks said that cricket is a strong bond between Pakistan and New Zealand and sportsmen of two countries are playing an important role in promoting people to people contacts and strengthening friendships and linkages.
The 2015 Cricket World Cup is being jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia from 14 February to 29 March 2015. Pakistan played two ODIs with New Zealand in the lead to the world cup tournament.
